چکیده

Abstract In recent decades the vitality and physical stability of European ash trees in Germany have been reduced by dieback, especially when associated with stem collar necroses rots. This study was carried out to investigate composition fungal communities necroses. Filamentous fungi were isolated from 58 nine forest stands northern, eastern, central Germany. Obtained isolates identified a genus or species level means morphological molecular analyses. total 162 morphotypes including endophytic, saprotrophic, pathogenic isolated. For 33 found no prior reports Fraxinus excelsior recognised, Cryptostroma corticale Diplodia sapinea . None at all studied sites, though fraxini most common fungus regard frequency within , occurring seven sample sites. is followed Hymenoscyphus fraxineus Armillaria spp., Neonectria punicea Diaporthe cf. eres Fusarium lateritium Paracucurbitaria sp. order isolates. The aforementioned are characterised analysed respect their occurrence influence site conditions on described for five intensively sampled sites minimum (Schwansee, Rhüden, Berggießhübel, Satrup, Schlangen). sampling Schlangen further subdivided into four subplots different positions terrain. remaining extensive either one two trees, respectively, (Oranienbaumer Heide, Woltershausen, Wolfenbüttel, Neuhege). Over symptomatic tissue similar concerning frequent fungi, but vary greatly according singularly fungi.

Molecular markers for tolerance of European ash (Fraxinus excelsior) to dieback disease identified using Associative Transcriptomics

Tree disease epidemics are a global problem, impacting food security, biodiversity and national economies. The potential for conservation and breeding in trees is hampered by complex genomes and long lifecycles, with most species lacking genomic resources. The European Ash tree Fraxinus excelsior is being devastated by the fungal pathogen Hymenoscyphus fraxineus, which causes ash dieback diseas...

A role for the asexual spores in infection of Fraxinus excelsior by the ash-dieback fungus Hymenoscyphus fraxineus

The invasive pathogen, ash dieback fungus Hymenoscyphus fraxineus, is spreading rapidly across Europe. It shows high levels of outcrossing and limited population structure, even at the epidemic front. The anamorphic (asexual) form produces prolific conidia, thought to function solely as spermatia (male gametes), facilitating gene flow between sympatric strains. Here, we show that conidia are ca...

Cryopreservation of dormant European ash (Fraxinus excelsior) orthodox seeds.

We investigated the sensitivity of dormant Polish-provenance Fraxinus excelsior L. seeds to extreme desiccation and liquid nitrogen (LN, -196 degrees C). Germination and seedling emergence tests revealed that the critical water content (WC) of the desiccated seeds was 0.04-0.06 g H(2)O g(-1) dry mass, g g(-1) (0.04 g g(-1) in the germination test and 0.06 g g(-1) in the seedling emergence test)...

Virulence of Hymenoscyphus albidus and H. fraxineus on Fraxinus excelsior and F. pennsylvanica

European ash (Fraxinus excelsior) is currently battling an onslaught of ash dieback, a disease emerging in the greater part of its native area, brought about by the introduction of the ascomycete Hymenoscyphus fraxineus (= Hymenoscyphus pseudoalbidus). The closely-related fungus Hymenoscyphus albidus, which is indigenous to Europe, is non-pathogenic when in contact with F. excelsior, but could ...

Effects of endophytic fungi on the ash dieback pathogen.

While Hymenoscyphus fraxineus causes dieback of the European ash (Fraxinus excelsior), flowering ash (F. ornus) appears resistant to the pathogen. To date, contributions of endophytic fungi to host resistance are unknown. The following hypotheses were tested: (i) endophytic fungi enhance the resistance of F. excelsior to the pathogen; (ii) resistance of F. ornus relies on its community of endop...
